Empat Lapisan Makna dalam Kitab Suci: Sampel Teks Kidung Agung 1:8-10

Hendi Hendi, Eka Nur Cahyani

Abstract

What is written in the Holy Scriptures is a literal text (expressed) and also non-literal (implied) or is called a divine text (inspired by the Holy Spirit) and also human (written by humans). It contains layers or senses of deeper meaning than just being read and understood by the naked eye. Therefore, to read and understand the Scriptures well we need hermeneutics or methods of interpretation or exegesis that can dig deep to find Christ and salvation there (2 Tim 3:15-17). In this article, the exegesis of the Church Fathers answers this by emphasizing the four senses of meaning in Scripture: historia, theoria, moral, and anagogic. The author will use the text of the Song of Solomon 1:8-10 as a sample or example to understand the patristic exegesis. The aim is that the reader will not only understand this theory of exegesis but also be able to apply it in the interpretation of the Scripture.
